Free MMORPG in well known universe! Have you ever dreamed of becoming the mighty Conan himself? Thanks to this free to play game set in the vast world of Hyboria your dreams can now become reality!
Age of Conan: Unchained (formerly known as Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures) is a MMORPG, low fantasy game developed by Funcom (best known for Anarchy Online and The Longest Journey game series). The world of Hyboria differs greatly from setting of other fantasy-themed, candy-like games (like World of Warcraft or TERA) - it is a harsh, merciless place, filled with gore, violence and lust. What is so special about the Age of Conan: Unchained that attracts attention, that keeps you busy and craving for more?
First things first, the audiovisuals. The Age of Conan: Unchained, despite the fact that it was launched in 2008 (as Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures) features a simply breathtaking level of graphics, which stands up to, or even puts to shame most of the today's state of the art MMO titles. Every now and then you will find yourself standing in a place, gazing at the glorious scenery. As far as the audio goes, it is of top-notch quality as well. The soundtrack is simply astonishing and turning it off won't even cross your mind for a second, which is a frequent issue with majority of online games. A thing worth praising are the dialogues - you won't find a wall of text in this game, as all of the conversations with NPCs are voiced! The downside to that is that the game requires ~30 GB of hard drive space.
The storyline and setting are probably the prominent distinguishing features of game. Unlike other MMO titles (excluding Star Wars: The Old Republic), which are mostly focused on the gameplay, Age of Conan: Unchained puts a strong emphasis on the story - you start as a slave, a castaway from a shipwreck, and your first goal is to kill your former master, equipped with nothing but a simple broken bottle. This introduction portrays the world of Hyboria, as a harsh, brutal one, where one has to care for himself. The further you get into the game, the more clear this scenario becomes - this game is by no means a colorful one like World of Warcraft or TERA.
Age of Conan: Unchained is a free to play game, allowing you to experience most of it without spending a single penny - the downsides to that are, for instance 2 character slots (with a maximum of 18 for those who pay), limited personal bank space, or restricted access to dungeons or sieges. If you want to experience the game fully, you can either pay for a subscription (thus becoming a Premium user) or buy various things with the Funcom Points (which is a shared in-game currency for all Funcom Games). If you are tired of fantasy games, filled with sweet graphics, you should definitely try Age of Conan: Unchained!
