Let’s Fish was developed by Polish Ten Square Games studio, also known from Let’s Hunt and Jungle Wars. Contrary to the former game, this time you won’t go out hunting big game – instead, you will grab a fishing rod, take your ship and go fishing to the most remote corners of the world. The game is totally free. The photorealistic graphics will sure make the experience much more pleasurable. This really is a genuine fishing simulator – there’s a ton of different tools and accessories available, which you will have to choose wisely, considering where and what you’re trying to catch.
The gameplay premise is very simple and explained well, in a short, step-by- step tutorial. You start the game by assembling your first fishing rod – selecting the bait, wire and the fly. These elements, along with those unlocked further in the game, will determine the weight and type of a fish that you’ll be able to catch. When you’re ready, you just have to press the right button to start fishing. When the time comes, you will need to start pulling. Then begins a mini-game, in which you have to keep the cursor within a set field in order for the cord not to snap. When you pull, you get closer to the end of the scale; when you let go, the fish is escaping – you have to maintain the right balance between these two. If you manage to do it the right way, you will presently see a screen with the description of your trophy.
Catching fish provides cash and experience points, as well as allows you to fulfill different goals. Achieving new experience levels unlocks new equipment that can be purchased in the store. Expanding your arsenal will allow you to catch heavier fish as well as to hunt for new, previously unknown species. After some time, you will also be able to unlock new techniques, which also means new mini-games that you’ll have to finish. If you manage to break the record of fish’ weight, you will get a special award. Each fish you manage to catch can be displayed on your wall.
Apart from the main quests, Let’s Fish also offers optional, time-limited missions, in which you will have to, for example, catch the given amount of fish in a predefined location, or to achieve the given limit of gross weight of your catch. These goals have to be met within a conservative time limit – only the quickest players can claim the prize. The more difficult the job, the more time you get and the better the prize. As the game progresses, you will be able to visit dozens of locations, all of them offering new challenges.
The game also offers a few social aspects, such as a leaderboard, allowing you to compete with players from around the world. Apart from that, you can also participate in regular tournaments, which feature special rules – such as catching the given type of fish with predefined equipment. You can also compete with your friends on a private leaderboard, or ask them to watch over your fishing nets. The more friends you’re able to get to keep watch within 24 hours, the better bonuses everyone gets. If you want, you can make your own fishing club, or join an existing one to meet new people and go fishing together. You can also boast your personal record, on your own scoreboard.
As in any free to play game – Let’s Fish features a premium currency. It allows players to buy new equipment much sooner than normally allowed; it can also be used in exchange for the regular currency – coins. The currency can also allow you to participate in a lottery, which doesn’t yield any prizes, but instead offers discounts for fishing equipment in the game’s store. These items can of course be purchased without spending real money as well – many tournaments and special events in the game provide access to the premium currency, as does logging in regularly.
Let’s Fish really stands out from other MMO games – something that every fishing enthusiast will sure appreciate. On the other hand, the players that are new to fishing will be able to learn a lot about this activity – the dangers and challenges that it poses. This certainly is a game for many hours, especially since the energy system, commonplace in free games of today, isn’t here – you can play for as long as you fancy without having to take long breaks. Just like in regular video games.
Here are a few useful tips for the beginner fishermen:
• Log in every day, even if you’re not planning to play for long. You will get bonuses for that;
• You can pull fish out by pressing space instead of the mouse button;
• Remember to purchase new gear regularly to be able to catch bigger fish;
• Use the bonuses provided by different reels, baits and nets to get the best results;
• Participate in tournaments as often as you can – some prizes are really great;
• Use the premium currency wisely – it’s hard to come by.
